For some people, dancing is a form of exercise while for others, it is a way of life. At age six, John Nucero knew it was a way of life.
Nucero used to get free dance lessons when he was a little boy because he couldn’t afford them during the Great Depression. In high school he danced in his cleats because he couldn’t afford tap shoes. Now 40 years later, Nucero owns his own dance studio in East Newark called The Best Food Forward studio.
Nucero, now 83, is still just as in love with his studio today as he was 40 years ago. The Best Food Forward dance group now entertains guests at charity events and nursing and veteran’s homes. They have been volunteering for 14 years.
The 21-member group specializes in tap dance, production numbers, Broadway tunes and even belly dancing and hula.
I hope that Nucero’s story can be motivation to all the struggling dancers out there to just keep trying and push yourself! Dreams do in fact come true if you work hard enough.
